2 Terrorists Killed In Counter-Infiltration Op By Army In J&K's Kupwara

Security forces on Wednesday foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, killing two terrorists, officials said.

A huge cache of weapons, including four AK series rifles, nine AK magazines, 175 AK rounds, six hand grenades, a UBGL, four UBGL grenades, and other incriminating material were found from the site of the encounter, they said.

"In a highly coordinated joint anti-terrorist operation launched by the army, local police and the Border Security Force (BSF), an infiltration bid was foiled by neutralising two Pakistani terrorists along the LoC in Machil sector of Kupwara district," a police spokesman said.

Acting on specific intelligence regarding an infiltration bid by terrorists, security forces launched a counter-infiltration operation along the Line of Control (LoC) in Machil sector of the north Kashmir district. Srinagar-based PRO defence Col Emron Musavi said at around 11 pm on Tuesday, the troops detected suspicious movement which was continuously tracked through surveillance devices.

At 4:55 am on Wednesday, contact was established with the terrorists, he said.

In the swift operation, the security forces naturalised two Pakistani terrorists in the early hours, thereby ensuring the safety and security of the region, the spokesman said.

The bodies of the terrorists were retrieved from the place of encounter, and their identification and affiliation are being ascertained, he added.

"The security forces also recovered four AK series rifles, nine AK magazines, 175 AK rounds, six hand grenades, a UBGL, four UBGL grenades, and other incriminating material from the site of the encounter," the spokesman said.

A case has been registered and an investigation taken up, the police said.

Additional Director General of Police, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said the successful operation not only foiled the infiltration attempt, but also dealt a "severe blow" to the plans of terrorists to disrupt peace and stability in the Valley.

The dedication and commitment of Jammu and Kashmir police/security forces personnel involved in the anti-terrorist operation has once again demonstrated their readiness to protect the nation against all odds, Kumar said.

The PRO defence said the successful counter-infiltration operation was yet another example of exemplary synergy between the security forces.

"It is also an indicator of repeated attempts by terrorist groups to push terrorists and war-like stores into Jammu and Kashmir to disturb the prevailing peace, development, and growth in the Union Territory," Col Musavi noted.
